I have never known a proponent of First Amendment Rights who was a blast at parties. As someone from a younger generation, I find myself surrounded by surly gun owners who only want to complain about politics while the stock up on ammunition. While I understand that guns and politics are helplessly entwined, it doesn't change the fact that I don't want to be involved in those conversations all the time. Gun owners are just not that cool, which is why I am shocked to announce that they are wearing trendy gun tees now.
I noticed the change last year when I went to a machine gun shoot in Kentucky. At first, everything seemed normal as I walked around and started browsing all of the exotic guns that were for sale. I love going to the machine gun shoots. It's not just the demonstration of raw firepower on display, but it's also the celebration of gun rights. Then I started seeing lots of gun apparel.
Any large gathering of like-minded people is going to be full to the brim with folks trying to make a buck, and there are lots of booths set up selling and trading weapons. When these booth guys saw those cool shirts with awesome gun art, their eyes lit up. I could see the gears working, and they were very quick to find out where this shirts were coming from.
Since I go every year, I made a mental note to take notice if there were lots more people wearing the pro-gun gear I had seen from the previous year. Sure enough, lots of the stall runners had those shirt in stock. In addition to that, all of the younger people from the year before were still wearing cool clothes and lots of those older guys were wearing them now too.
Being a gun lover to the extreme myself, I'm very pleased to see the community jump on board with these much cooler, much hipper shirts these days. Now I can expect to see something somewhat fashionable for sale at the events I go to instead of just countless variations of "Don't tread on me!" shirts. Thank goodness for cool gun t-shirts, because now I can support my passion with pride!
