The Fraudulence of Tungsten

By Chad Stevenson

Tungsten is known for its extreme hardness and sustainability. It's sold by jewelry retailers as one of the strongest rings on the market and therefore will be an infinitely better choice than any other ring out there. Why would you select something more flexible such as gold or silver? There are various reasons why you actually should. Tungsten is in reality one of the very worst choices when it comes to wedding rings and any amount of addition personal research will reveal that anyone who is interested in the market.

As it is proclaimed; tungsten is in fact one of the hardest materials to indeed make rings out of. Tungsten carbide ranks near to a 9 in the Mohs scale of hardness which is a testament to how hard it really is but it's really an ironic point. Tungsten being so hard is the reason it's such a bad choice as a wedding ring. Because it is so hard it is also very brittle. This means a good whack on a tile or a drop on a cement street could crack the ring in two.

Another major issue found with men's tungsten wedding bands also originates from its hardness. Because a tungsten wedding band is so hard and due to this fact; brittle they cannot be resized. If you invariably gain or lose weight over the duration of your marriage and the tungsten ring no longer fits you then you'll have to simply go out and purchase a new one. So much for the every lasting icon of what marriage is.

Finally; one of the absolute grounds not to buy tungsten derives from the hazard it poses to its wearer. If for whatever reason you end up in an emergency room with a swollen ring finger bearing tungsten you better hope the emergency room is carrying the correct tools for proper ring removal. Typically rings require a saw to saw through but tungsten being as hard as it is requires special pliers to break through that not every hospital carries. If you find yourself at the wrong hospital they're going to have a very hard time taking off the ring without permanently damaging your finger.

So before you cement your ideas on how good of a choice tungsten will be to symbolize the everlasting bonds of marriage consider all of the facts. When it comes down it, tungsten's hardness is exactly what makes it such a terrible choice. It's a ring that's most definitely not worth its weight in gold.
