From Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean comes a superb new LEGO set, the LEGO Black Pearl. It offers over 800 bits, and includes six characters from the movie. With the model completed, it stands almost two feet high and 21 inches long, which forms an impressive kit that can be great for play or as a standalone display model.
Besides the regular LEGO sets, the dark-gray sails are made from real fabric, to provide a little more realistic feel to the model. The set consist of three instruction booklets, and a sizeable size poster .
The LEGO Black Pearl Pirates of the Caribbean set features:
- 804 pieces in total.
- Measures 21 inches long x 20 inches high x 5 inches wide.
- Six figurines including Captain Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, Joshamee Gibbs, Davy Jones, Maccus and Bootstrap Bill.
- Features include detailed interior cabin, firing canons, black fabric sails, Jolly Roger pirate flag and anchor.
- Ideal for ages 8-14.
For kids aged between 8-14, this is a best suited LEGO set. For the kids it's a tough puzzle to work on, but not excessively difficult. I think an 8 year old should be able to assemble it in just a few hours, maybe with aid from an adult on a couple of areas, but overall it will be an enjoyable experience for them.
Upon completion, the ship looks completely sensational, and there's lots that a child can do with it as much as play goes. Captain Jack's in depth cabin to explore, the shooting cannons and removable floorboards are just some of the options of the set.
The package set does a fantastic job at re-creating the storyline experience, and incorporating fabric sails is an added bonus. LEGO might have satisfied themselves with using just plastic, but the fabric does give an excellent contrast. Even when not being played with, it makes for a wonderful display ship.
Depending on where you go shopping, this LEGO set may cost a bit expensive, and therefore isn't the best value for the moneyHowever, there are plenty of places in which the kit is sold for less than LEGO's recommended retail price, which is certainly great.
There are rare events when pieces of blocks have been missed out, there is very little else to say that is actually unfavorable about the product. Most negative elements of this product are actually minor and shouldn't affect your choice to buy it or not.
All in all, this set is very nice and recreates the Pirates series well. The included six figures are the ideal bonus, as extra characters really help populate the deck and make the ship look busy. And they also provide even more play options for children. It is both a lot of fun to put together and extremely playable as well. We give this LEGO set a definite thumbs up.
