With time, the game was computerized, which made it even more popular as you could play the game against the computer. In medieval times, laborers were considered more inferior to landowners and life was hard for them. Most of them died when they were still young.

The queen is the only piece in the game that represents a woman. This is because queens were powerful in the past and had a great influence over the decisions that the king made. Most queens worked for or against the kings. The king could choose to listen to her advice or brush her aside. The king is normally defended in the game as a Kings surrender normally symbolized the fall of a kingdom.
