Brighten Up Race Day On The Color Run

By Debra Z. Hardeman

People that are not interested in running a regular run-of-the-mill race come from all over to participate in the Color Run each year. This race takes place in more than 25 various locations throughout the year so more people can participate. Along with the fun and enjoyment of taking part in the race, a charity from the nearby area will be benefitting from the race. People are able to volunteer to work in the event or they can run in the race. Participants are sure to have a very colorful day regardless of which way they are participating.

People will come to the event on race day wearing plain white shirts and big smiles on their faces. The racers may run as fast as they can as they take off from the starting line. In each section, racers will have colors thrown on them, and they shouldn't expect to make it to the end of the race with white shirts. Their white shirts will now adorn yellow, blue, purple, green, and pink colors as they have colored corn starch thrown at them throughout the competition. Along with eye protection from the sun, racers should wear sunglasses as a form of protection from the flying corn starch.

People who are unable to participate in the Color Run as a racer can participate as a volunteer. The runners have to have someone there to throw colors at them through the race. Colored corn starch is tossed at the racers by the handful as they pass by the volunteers throughout the race. Since they don't get to run in the race, volunteers can get rid of some of their anger and frustrations by hurling colors and having fun instead. Volunteers are not paid for their time, but they will get to have fun and receive a special t-shirt for being a member of the team. A local charity will receive a part of the proceeds from the racer registration for the event.

At the finish line of the 5K run, the racers will be a part of the grand finale where they will continue to throw handfuls of dyed corn starch at each other. After the race is over, the celebration will continue with food and music for the rest of the day. Spectators can come out to the race even if they are not signed up to be in the race or volunteer. People of all ages are invited to observe, compete, or volunteer.

A person's day can be a lot brighter and happier when they take part in the Color Run. There is bound to be one near you given that there are more than 25 various cities in the US participating throughout the year. You can get rainbow colored from head to toe, and when you're done you can relax with the other racers while enjoying great food and awesome music.
