Retain the Best Employees

By Brad Chase

Losing a high performing employee isn't easy, and it automatically takes money away from the business.

As well as the time and money spent training that employee, there are also the hidden expenses that can be a major loss to the company, like opportunity costs, knowledge loss, and vacancy costs. It is a costly and time consuming process to hire a new employee and train the anew.

There are some useful strategies which, if applied correctly, can help take care of these issues.

Keeping The Best and Brightest

Buy work uniform for your employees- You can make people wear your work uniform and stay with you but they must be given a reason. Your company can become the attractive place for good employees.

Career Paths - A person who starts working for you will need to make sure that they are able to have a future in that place. How to plan to use their skills in the future is something they need to know about which is why you have to sit down with them and let them know what your ideas are. Also try to see their goals within the company.

Balance - People who work all day need to spend time with their families at the end of the day. Convince employees to take their vacation time and let them know they are working for the right company and that they will have flexible work schedules.

Freedom - Standing above employees as they work might seem like a good idea. That's not true. It is important to give them the freedom they need in order to accomplish important tasks. You shouldn't be getting into micro-management.

Corporate Clothing - Making your employees feel like they are part of the company will require that you provide them with the right work uniforms. Speak to employees about the corporate clothing they would like, and allow them to help choose a work uniform that will define them as important team members. Order fitting corporate clothing now!

Opportunities- Do you offer your employees training? Do you ever try out new things? Providing opportunities for those who wear your work uniform to grow, develop, and learn is essential if they are going to feel fulfilled and successful.

Release the Rest- Some employees, no matter how hard you try, will always still want to just get that paycheque so they can go home and they will not be as interested in learning as some others. Employees like this also waste your time and effort and will leave you unable to concentrate on employees that are actually bright and good. Your focus should be employees who actually do like to work and on hiring ones that are brighter.

You don't want to lose any important employees any longer? You might have to make some changes. With the above mentioned tips you will be able to retain the right employees while getting rid of the wrong ones.
