Tips For VHS Transfer To DVD

By Paula Barron

Many people have used VHS tapes in the past to capture those special moments with family and friends. As technology has changed and improved, many people want to move away from the old VHS tapes but still keep their important memories. To do this, all that is needed is to do a transfer to DVD.

It is a much simpler process than you might think. There are just a few things you are going to need to get yourself started. You are going to need a DVD machine, a VHS recorder or video camera, some blank DVD's and a set of RCA cables consisting of the colors red, yellow and white.

Once you have collected all of the tools you need to start the project, start by attaching the VHS recorder or the camera to the DVD machine. This can be done easily by attaching your RCA cables. Put one of the cables in the port that says "out" on your camera or your VHS machine and then proceed to put a cable into the DVD machine port that says "in".

The next step is to hook up your DVD recording device to your TV. To do this, you will are going to have to attach the coaxial cable to the "out" port on your DVD recording device. Then you will have to attach the TV with the "in" connection. In both cases, you will be looking for what looks like a screw.

Once you have all lines where they are meant to be turn your television on and make sure that you have it tuned. In most cases, you will tune the television to 3 but, occasionally this turns out to be channel 4. You also have to turn on and tune the DVD machine.

The next step is to turn the video camera or VHS machine on and put in the VHS tape that is going to be duplicated. When you see the video begin to play, you can rest assured that you have done it right. Remember, to be sure the movie is rewound at the starting point before you start the recording. Also, remember to insert a blank, recordable DVD disk into the DVD player. After everything is in place, all that is left to do is hit "record" on the player. Once your movie has played all the way through and reached the end, simply hit the "stop" button.

In order for this format to be visible on all the DVD recording machine you do need to make sure you have "finalized" the disk. How you do this will be explained in your owners manual. While the process is often different with each machine, in most cases, it is a very simple process to complete.

The process is quite simple to change your movie from one format to another however, you will need to be patient because it will take the length of time that the movie plays for the process to be complete. The cost of doing a transfer to DVD project such as this for the most part, really just depends on the cost of the DVD's you have purchased. Nowadays, they can be purchased in a variety of places for varying costs.
