The Party Planning Menu Shouldn't Be Left Until Last

By Chris Hepburn

With all of the things that need to be thought about when you are planning a birthday, wedding, or any celebration really, it seems that the party planning menu takes a backseat to everything else. While most people tend to think that the menu is just something that can easily be thrown together at the last minute, that could not be further from the truth. It is important to make sure that you are finding time, well enough in advance, to plan the menu to the best of you ability.

The first thing you need to decide is whether you are going to have the food catered or if you are going to cook it yourself. You could do a combination of the two as well. For example, you could purchase or hire a caterer for the main dishes and then you can cook and supply the side dishes. The direction you go is completely up to you. When you are trying to make your decision, you will want to make sure that you are factoring in time as well as money. If the party will have a lot of guests, will you have the time to properly prepare and cook all of the food?

You can also have the whole family pitch in for the party menu. You can have two people cook the main dish, have two others create some side dishes and then have someone else bake the cake and maybe some cookies as well. Once you start thinking about the menu and the type of party that you will be having, you will be able to make the right decision as to who will be making all of the food.

When making your party planning menu, give a lot of thought to the food you will serve. The more people at your party, the more diverse the tastes will be. Some people may not eat meat. Some people might not like meat but will eat chicken. Some people will be on diets and want light foods like salads. Serve a variety of dishes so everyone will have something to choose from. Of course, if you are having a small party, this should not be a big problem as you can simply ask about preferences beforehand.

It is also important to make sure that you are planning ahead as to how the hot foods will remain hot and how the cold foods will remain cold. This is one reason why so many people decide to go with a caterer so that this will be the problem of the caterer. Either way, no matter what you decide to do, as long as you are planning in advance and doing your best to think everything through, you will give the birthday boy or girl the birthday of a lifetime.
