Round Tufted Ottoman

By Samuel Anderson

We normally think of an ottoman as a piece of furniture that we can put our feet on. As footstool, pouffe and ottoman stylists we have several different kinds in a wide range of designs and upholstery styles.

Whether you are replacing old furniture or buying brand-new, we have the footstools and ottomans you are looking for. Ottomans are armless, upholstered seats or benches. These boxes are used to rest your feet when you are relaxing. Ottomans were very popular in the Ottoman Empire and this is where it gets its name from. Some ottomans are made hollow to provide room for storage, a feature that is particularly useful in small homes and apartments, where storage room are always welcome. They are designed to match the chair or glider that they are paired with.

In most homes they can be found in the living room and are used solely to put up ones feet.

Designers are now coming up with innovative ways to use this piece of furniture and there are number of different uses that ottoman's can be used for. An ottoman is a wooden box that has cushioning on top. Leather bears up well under heavy use, and its patina only improves with age. Instead of leaving books, CD's and games piled up around the living area you can neatly put them away inside your ottoman.

To be functional, an ottoman's height should precisely match the height of the sofa or chair that you will occupy while using it. Just gather them around the rest of furniture and you have extra seats for several more guests. Ottomans can also be used for extra seating.

For others, a larger, wider piece is a better choice. A leather ottoman adds elegance and class to any room; they are especially nice in formal sitting rooms and more up-scale conservatories. You don't need to pair an ottoman with a particular chair.

You can place a couple of ottoman's in your living room and they can be used either for seating or can be moved around to use as footrests. Often, ottomans are chosen to match existing seating, but you may want to consider purchasing a distinctive ottoman instead.

Ottomans can be used to add decorative interest to a room, though a pop of color, contrasting texture or a unique shape. To avoid spillage a lot of ottomans are now designed with a reversible cover.
