Weather Resistant Boots

By Jane Spelling

Not too far back weatherproof boots were nothing more than practical, common rubber boots. They fit over shoes to keep out rain, snow, slush and mud. The boots usually came in just a few colors, for example red, yellow, and black. Many folks referred to them as galoshes. Other terms folks have used include wellies, billy boots, dickersons, topboots, muckboots, overshoes, and gummies.

In the U.S, water-proof boots did not become popular until the 1930s when Fred Astaire said to Ginger Rogers that she ought to be wearing some galoshes. Then after one or two decades, the popularity of these boots waned.

Contemporary Wellies

Today, however, weatherproof boots have made quite a comeback. Now, they come in a range of different styles and colours. Celebs like Kate Moss and Angelina Jolie have helped fuel their popularity. It's not unusual to see 1 or 2 celebs wearing a pair of designer rain boots during cold, soggy seasons. They've become an entertaining way of showing fashion sense. Even some kids of celebs have been seen frolicking in a pair of cute weatherproof boots.

Besides the improvement in aesthetics, makers have also added more extras to weather proof boots over the last one or two years like inner liners to help keep feet less cold and high-traction outsoles to help prevent slipping. Many boots are also made of thinner and tougher material. The majority are expressly designed to be fashionable, waterproof and warm.

Have More Fun in the Rain with Rain Boots

You will have lots of fun dressing with a pair of rain boots. If you're feeling feminine, dress them up with a lovable jean skirt tee, and cardigan sweater. Don't forget about your skinny jeans. They'll look super lovable tucked into a pair of knee-high weatherproof boots. For additional comfort and fashion, wear your boots with a pair of thigh-high socks. Be certain to accent your rainy day outfits with a jazzy scarf.
