My Unique Gift Ideas

By Brent Neenan

What about unique gift ideas? I don't want to think about that, I want to think about my guitar. I don't like gifting; I like music. Right now I'm just teaching myself the beginning to Aqualung and working on Ring of Fire. I know how to play Hybrid Moments pretty solidly which took the dedication of learning every last bit of it. If I want to learn Ring of Fire through and through it's going to take the same amount of work.

My favorite gift I could get is the gift of being left alone. My philosophy in life is if I don't bother you, then you don't bother me. It's simple enough. I don't even need an amp or anything like that to play because I've inherited an acoustics so even in the times my power goes out I can still play. It all goes hand in hand with my philosophy on minimalism.

As for unique gift ideas; I have none. I never do. They say visit the site IAASA or, Iamastuffedanimal and you find some really awesome ideas there. I've been there a couple times and it was pretty cool. I suppose if I'm ever in the market for gifting that's where I'll go first. I don't even know when the next occasion to give a gift is going to be. People don't give gifts on the 4th of July, do they?

I'd really don't care about any of this though because I'd rather be shopping for a new guitar for me. I have a good beginner's guitar; it's an Epiphone PR-100. It's good for what it is but I'm getting sick of the sound of it. The high e sounds like garbage though. I can't complain however as it was given to me for free by my sister as she finally moved out.

I think my next guitar might be an Ibanez or a Fender or maybe a Seagull. I'm pretty broke and I know that all acoustic guitars within my price range are all relatively crappy so I'm stuck between getting one immediately because I'm getting sick of the sound of my PR-100 or waiting until the day I have the money to really splurge. If I get one now I'm going to really have to do my shopping but I'm not that up on what makes a guitar actually good save knowing you want a solid wood top. Everything else that goes into the sound of it becomes subjective in my understanding and has more to do with the player than the guitar itself.
