A Brief Review of Girl of Nightmares by Kendare Blake

By Tom Mara

For all those like me who love the Young Adult horror genre, one of the best books to hit the market in 2011 was Anna Dressed in Blood written by the author Kendare Blake and it was a huge success commercially. Ever since I finished reading that book, I was eagerly awaiting the launch of the sequel titled Girl of Nightmares that is due for release in August, 2012.

I was lucky enough to win a free advance copy of the second book via one of the giveaway contests held on the author's site and after spending the whole of last weekend curled up in bed with that book, I finally finished reading it and am ready with my review of the book.

This sequel to Anna Dressed in Blood takes off from where the first book ended and the protagonist, Cas is trying to come to terms with the loss of Anna. Even though he realizes the fact that Anna dies in order to protect him, he still can't get over her death and his cause is not being helped by the fact that he continues to see Anna's ghost wherever he goes.

The ghost and visions of Anna don't stop even while he's asleep and he's constantly awoken by haunting nightmares. The worst part of those nightmares is that he sees Anna being tortured and torn apart in his dreams and that's what he can't bear at all.

Although, Cas knows the fact that there is no way to bring her back from hell, his love for her proves too strong and he ultimately decides to move heaven and earth in order to bring back Anna from the dead. The story is told in an explosive manner and the climax of the book is riveting and will surely leave your heart beating ten times faster.

Personally, I loved the book overall and for me the best part was the way in which the author has tied up all the loose ends thus making it a wonderful read. The book is filled with enough thrills and chills but there's also humor in there at just the right amount.

Girl of Nightmares by Kendare Blake is due for release on the 7th of August, 2012 but for all those who simply can't wait any longer; it's also available on pre-order at a number of online stores and I think out of those, Amazon is offering the biggest discount as well. All said and done, I'd give this book a must-read verdict and five stars for its brilliant plot.
