The Four Types Of Serial Killer Minds

By Marissa Velazquez

Experts tell us that three fourths of all serial killers live in America and most of them can be found in the state of California. They also tell us that until they are caught or killed they will continue to kill. There are cool down periods that they go through but those periods become shorter in length as the killings continue. They cannot be picked out from a crowd and blend into society as easily as you or anyone else. Because of these factors the public wants to know what motivates serial killer minds.

There are four types of personalities that dominate this class of murderer. The visionary is the one that hears instructions from some higher authority to kill. Generally there will be a specific target that is chosen and the director is usually God or the devil. Mothers and fathers are also sometimes the voice that they hear and these instructions will come from the grave.

Individuals who select specific segments of the population to be removed are considered to be mission oriented. They tell authorities when captured that they are ridding communities of unwanted rubbish. These victims may be street people, gays, ethnic groups, or liberated women. The reason for the mission is clear to only the one who is doing the killing.

The hedonistic killers simply enjoy inflicting pain on other living beings. People are seen only as a means to derive pleasure for themselves. This group is divided into three sub-types: lust, thrill and comfort.

The lust driven individual enjoys the fear and pain he subjects his victim to and receives sexual gratification from his actions. This person will generally be drawn to taking prostitutes because they willingly get into vehicles with strangers. Most of the pleasure they get is from having complete power over their victims and the amount of pain they can inflict on them for long periods of time. They will usually use a weapon that allows them to be very close for the kill such as their hands.

Thrill killers appear to be driven by the adrenalin rush they get from watching someone die at their hands. The pain suffered by their victims increases their pleasure and they can be random people who are killed. These individuals can wait for long periods between killings and sometimes use the time refining their technique in an attempt to avoid attracting attention from the police.

A comfort killer operates out of greed. They will kill for money and security. Family members are generally the target but some have killed boarders or people in their care. The weapon of choice will generally be poison or drug overdoses.

The fourth group is called media killers because they blame the violent content of movies, games and television for their behavior. The blame theme can be seen in many of the stories told by convicted killers. They blame their parents for not paying enough attention or for being cruel and abusive to them. No one really knows why the serial killer minds have none of the moral stops that most people have. They are psychopathic by nature and do not have the ability to feel empathy for their fellow human being. There is no easy answer for them or society.
