The Use Of Hydro LED Light In Hydroponics

By Catalina Nielsen

The lighting technique used in Hydroponics gardening using LEDs is known as hydro LED light. The Lumen Emitting Diodes (LEDs) along with other lights used for this purpose are referred to as Grow Lights. The grow lights, as the name suggests, aid in the growth of the plants and are designed to provide the nourishment that the plants would otherwise receive from sunlight.

Hydroponics is a subset of Hydro culture and is a method of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions in water, without soil. These nutrients are absorbed by the plants either by capillary action or by some other pumping mechanism, the former being called Hydro culture and the latter Hydroponics.

The Lumen is unquestionably a crucial element required for the process of photosynthesis to take place. Therefore, in order for plants to photosynthesize i. E., transform carbon dioxide and water into energy, especially in case of indoor gardening, grow lights become essential.

There are various types of Lumen sources which are available to support this phenomenon. LED Lights: Lumen emitting diodes form the most common and efficient Lumen sources. High-Intensity Discharge: This Lumen source contains mercury vapors which are useful and emit more usable Lumen but can emit toxic gases in case of a breakage or failure. Incandescent bulbs: White bright Lumen emitted by them is a good source but can elevate temperature of the ecosystem and can sometimes affect the plant growth.

The LED lights last long, are durable and consume less power than other grow lights. They also have the ability to emit Lumen of a particular frequency out of the complete color spectrum. They are smaller in size and emit less heat, offering a high luminous efficiency at the same time. Clearly, these features make the LED Lumen a better choice over other grow lights.

The ability of the LED light to adjust to the purpose of emitting Lumen of a particular frequency, undoubtedly, gives it an edge. Different plants need Lumen of different colors at various stages of its growth. By using adjustable color filters of separate LEDs, the equipment manages to emit the particularly colored light that the plant needs at that stage of its growth.

An important criterion to bear in mind while finalizing a grow Lumen for ones plants is the wattage of the Lumen. The wattage is measured in lumens, which in turn is a unit of measure of amount of visible Lumen emitted by a source. The wattage should be decided on two basic factors. Firstly, the type of plant. For example, a lettuce plant needs less Lumen whereas a tomato plant needs more; secondly, the size of the room. This is to make sure that the light is neither too much that it goes wasted and unutilized nor too less that it does not meet the plant requirements.

Undoubtedly, a technique of gardening that does not use soil is free from soil-borne insects. It is also easier to maintain and can be done even in case of scarcity of fertile land. Complementing this, an artificial lighting system can prove useful in simulating sunlight. It can therefore be concluded that Hydro LED light has a bright future.
