A High Quality Cubic Zirconia Ring Is As Beautiful As Diamond For Your Loved One

By Nita McKinney

It is often said that diamonds are a girl's best friend and every young lady dreams of the day when the man of her dreams will get on bended knee proffering a beautiful solitaire. In reality it is much more likely that the couple will go shopping together once they have decided to marry have a budget in mind for the ring. While the girl gazes wistfully at the sparking diamonds, the young man is probably hoping she will choose a high quality cubic zirconia ring instead.

Since the beginning of time men have been giving their loved ones tokens of affection. It was understood that a woman wearing a ring on her finger was no longer available as she had chosen her partner. Before metal was abundant, rings of rushes were used with iron rings not coming to the fore until Roman times. Iron was considered a symbol of the couples enduring bond.

As jewelers became more skilled, gemstones were added to make beautiful designs and a more precious gift. In the 15th Century the diamond came to symbolize strength, longevity and beauty and so became popular with the upper classes. Their rarity meant only a select few could afford such a gift for the one they loved.

The discovery of big deposits of diamond in South Africa in the 19th Century brought more stones onto the market and meant they were considerably more affordable. A single small stone or even chip was within reach of most suitors. In recent times, the politically situation in the region has marred the stature of the stones as people are uneasy buying from cruel regimes and war zones. Thankfully there are wonderful alternatives whose beauty is equally lasting.

The Russians were the first people to create artificial gem stones in an attempt to produce a synthetic ruby which they required for manufacturing. The process of mixing mineral and metal at high temperature and forcing it into a crystal state produced a rock which had very similar properties to naturally occurring gems. Adding colorants and stabilizers they could create stones which were almost indistinguishable from rubies, sapphires and diamond.

The makeup of the crystal allows it to be cut in exactly the same way as naturally occurring gems. This gives the brilliant shine and light reflecting qualities associated with gems. While slightly less hard than diamond, there is almost no way to tell the difference unless scrutinized by a qualified jeweler. Natural stones always have tiny flaws which make them unique, while the manmade gem is flawless.

Early forms of these gems were extremely expensive and it was not until the late Seventies that advances in techniques meant that they could be produce in large quantities. From this time they became much more widely available and thus the price dropped. Since then they have become and extremely popular and affordable substitute for the traditional diamond solitaire.

A high quality cubic zirconia ring is a perfect way to show your lady that you love them as its beauty will last as long as any diamond. The brilliance and sparkle is as good as a real stone but much more affordable. In years to come perhaps they too will be revered in song.
