There is frequently lots of confusion on how to wire a car audio capacitor. There are two terminals on a car audio capacitor. A positive and a negative. The negative terminal is linked to earth. The positive terminal is joined "in-line" with the car audio amplifier 12 volts terminal. Ideally the power capacitor should be as close as possible to the amplifier. In a couple of feet is okay. This keeps any cable losses to a nadir.
An electrical capacitor is set between the car battery as well as the car audio amplifier. A power capacitor is used to help to provide large quantities of up-to-date without creating a big draw on the automobile's electrical system. Battery and a power capacitor will provide maximum performance for your car audio amplifier and avoid disastrous draw in the vehicles alternator.
Before you install a capacitor, you need to charge it to stop blowing fuses. Make use of a voltmeter together with a resistor to charge your audio capacitor. You can now wire the capacitor in parallel with your vehicle amplifier.
Remove the inline fuse in the car audio amplifier power cable. Disconnect the power cable in the car audio amplifier using a screwdriver. Slide a terminal connector of the tip of the power wire and secure it to the power wire by squeezing it with the pliers.
Connect a terminal connector to both ends of the 4-gauge ground wire and fasten the ends by squeezing them tight with the pliers. Connect one end of the 4-gauge ground wire to exactly the same place the auto audio amplifier is grounded.
Insert a 1k ohm resistor in the fuse block rather than the automobile amplifier power wire fuse. Join the volt meter for the positive and negative terminals of the power capacitor; the initial reading must be zero volts.
Connect the power wire to the positive side of the power capacitor and observe the volt meter. After the volt meter reaches 12-volts, the power capacitor is correctly charged. Leave the car amplifier power wire joined to the power capacitor.
Slide a terminal connector over one end-of the 4-gauge power wire and fix it by squeezing it tight using the pliers. Put the 4-gauge power wire onto the positive side on the power capacitor along with the car amplifier power wire. Secure them tightly against the wrench set.
Connect the 4-gauge power cable to the to the positive terminal to the amp and fasten it tight with a screwdriver. Install the original fuse into the fuse block for your car amplifier power cable. If your power capacitor includes a digital display, there will be a smaller third terminal to the power capacitor; this needs to be hooked up to the amplifier's distant cable to turn to the digital display.
