The Chronological Account Of Burning Spear Discs

By Doris Rivas

Burning Spear discs will remain to be the best sold musical pieces within Jamaica, the country of origin, and across the entire world as a whole. Burning Spear goes by the name Winston Rodney. He is among the prominent reggae artists who have performed and produced several songs together albums. His music is characterized by social-political malpractices which normally occur in the society. He offers encouragement to his listeners and warns them to shun violence as a means of survival

It was Bob Marley who set his musical career rolling. Bob Marley told him that it could have been better if he joined a studio. He stood a chance of recording his music in the studio he was to join. With the help of another artiste by the name Rupert Willington, they were able to produce Door peep, which was an album with three songs. They were joined by Delroy Hinds after the good performance of the songs in the market. As the vocalist for the group, he did a couple of single tracks.

Rodney composed words in his music which were portrayed by deep emotions and anger. Some sense of holiness and inspiration could also be seen in them. Among his first songs included Zion Higher, Ethiopian live it out and We are free. His focus was directed at the oppression his race faced, religious devotion and literary theme of repatriation.

They first released a track called Marcus Garvey. They then later followed it by Slavery days. Marcus Garvey as an album did perform well in Jamaica. As he continued to pursue his musical profession, he got signed up by Island label. This move outraged his fellow group members.

When time came to maintain his position in this industry, he put up his own label. Burning Spear was the name of the label. He debuted the label by a single track music called Travelling. This was subsequently trailed by two single named Burning spear and The Youth. Man in the hills was done in the 1970s and it majorly focused on rural themes.

The group later came to break up. When releasing his album Dry and Heavy, he had already parted ways with the other two musicians. He then signed his label to EMI and went back to release an album titled Hail H. I. M in the first studio in which he recorded his first music. Winston had begun to explore non cultural themes in his music. Here is where he did She is mine.

The Fittest of the fittest followed by Resistance were the subsequent productions. Resistance had a good audience reception which earned it a Grammy nomination. At Slash label, he did the song titled People of the world. This song also earned him a Grammy nomination. In 1980s, he did Mistress, which had a poor reception. This prompted him to release Live in Paris within the same year.

When Winston returned to Island studio after a certain European tour, he opened a new account with Mek We Dweet. He was now majoring in consumer friendly roots type of music. Jah Kingdom was among the Burning Spear discs that were released in the late 19th century. The world should know was an album which actually earned him a Grammy award. He had now decided to communicate real life experiences in his music.
